5 Years!

Jay and I just celebrated our five year anniversary. We headed up to Tahoe to celebrate for 24 hours alone (glorious). We ate dinner at our favorite sushi spot and laughed and reminisced upon the good and the great and the crazy and the lovely that makes up our little union.

I think this past year was one of my favorites.  For the second time around we discovered all the joy and strain that a new baby brings into a marriage. It's the best but it is hard.  I am busy and smitten and preoccupied with a newborn and Jay is trying to wrap his mind around the transition and how to take care of his emotional and exhausted wife, while getting to know this little person who initially shows zero interest in anything but nursing and snuggling mama (repeat). HARD. And then we suddenly hit a point where we start to feel like us again... and life gets even better. Like crazy good. Even if it took overcoming meltdown pull your hair out sort of arguments and an entire weekend get-away wasted because we were too busy fighting to enjoy the weekend free of baby responsibility and 4am wake up calls. Ridiculous. Progress not perfection.. Am I right?

We decided earlier this year that we will not put our everything into our children at the expense of our marriage. We had to make a big fat U-turn which involved some major discussion and reevaluating. When our kids are grown we don't want to be strangers who didn't make it a priority to invest in one another... because we gonna pa-pa-paaarty!!! So in the meantime we've made date-night serious business around here and we are committed to the whole Love and Respect thing. HARD but so worth it. I am so grateful to be married to a man who never gives up on us and who continues to love and show up through it all.

I love you Jay!!!

Forever.
